The project will realise first a research that will identify and register the common elements and the common motifs in popular fairy tales. On the basis of this research, scenarios are going to be developed and the performances are going to be prepared. The performances are going to be compiled first as a structure and then as a text and a stage action. They will include acting as well as interactive theatre games. Through this compilation, the partners will take case in order to save as many as possible elements of the popular tradition, including both these elements of their country and the common elements with the countries of the refugees.
The development of the performances is going to be made with the cooperation of refugees and local artists. Refugees with the skills to be part of these performances are going to be identified in the refugee camps or reception centres and are going to be trained in order to be able to contribute to the development of the performances and participate actively in them.
Three kinds of performances are going to be developed. One performance is going to be based on theatre play with the participation of both refugee and local actors. The narrator is going to play the role of the facilitator and will support the smooth development of the performance from a linguistic point of view. This performance is going to be staged in 5 different locations in each country where refugees are staying (refugee camps/ reception centres etc). Another performance is going to be based on fairy tale narration with the support of masks of the popular tradition of the refugee countries. This performance is also going to be staged in 5 different locations. Finally, a performance is going to be prepared for the local population. It is going to be staged twice in each country in theatres.
In order to ensure the widest possible sustainability and impact of the project, fairy tales from the countries of the refugees are going to be recorded and subtitled in 4 languages. The performances are also going to be recorded. An online portal is also going to be developed that will focus on the identification and promotion of common cultural elements of the popular cultures in the countries of the refugees and the European countries. There, the registrations are going to be uploaded but the portal is not going to be limited to the resources developed by the project but it is going to gather and promote also other resources that highlight these common elements. A glossary related with popular terms and words and the reference to traditions as they mentioned through the tales is also going to be developed as part of the portal and is going to be useful for the artists and the many professions of the academic and education world. This will also increase the chances for the replicability of the project activities.
Through these activities, the project is aiming to bring down the cultural barriers that hinder the social integration of the refugees and to promote the cultural exchanges between the refugees and the local population based on common traditions.
